Fierce Play with Amy

Why PLAY? What is the power of PLAY?

Play opens the door to imagination. Imagination = Possibility. Possibility becomes Transformation. Play weaves community, reminds us of joy, of wonder, of our natural power to create. It is a healing, life-generating force that can shape new realities. This is why PLAY.

What is FIERCE PLAY? Theater? Art? Sound? Story? YES!

FIERCE PLAY is an energetic, full-bodied, multi-sensory experience. Created by ensemble theater director Amy Sass, FIERCE PLAY expands imaginative capacity through artistic agility. This holistic method is based in physical theater and interweaves dance, story building, visual art, and soundscape. Each session will find us up and moving, utilizing the body as a storytelling device, a kinetic sculpture, a musical instrument. In a short time you will be sweating, sounding and laughing with others. A kind of artistic intimacy emerges as we play in this artful, tactile environment. You will experience creative use of objects, masks, and puppets. This joy-based practice cultivates a deep sensory awareness, opens the expressive voice and breaks up psychic stuckness. We will invite the WEIRD, the WISE and the WILD into our practice. You will leave feeling ALIVE.

Introduction to Capoeira

Introduction to Capoeira Movement is a one-time workshop

Instructor: Marin Toscano

Duration: 1 hour (classtime) and ~30 min (Roda)

Date: Nov 8th

Time: 11am-12:30p

Family Pricing: $25/family

*Participants must be 7+ years

About Capoeira:

This dynamic class introduces students to Capoeira, the Afro-Brazilian martial art form that blends rhythmic movement, acrobatics, and dynamic, dance-like interaction. Participants learn foundational kicks, sweeps, escapes, and flowing sequences, while developing strength, flexibility, rhythm, and teamwork. Through games, music, and partner exercises, students experience Capoeira's unique blend of movement, culture, and self-expression.

What's a Roda?

A circle, or "roda", is central to Capoeira. It is a circle game where two people (or players) are inside the circle engaging in gameplay and "battle" while musicians and other participants around the circle provide the rhythm to guide the game, sing, clap, and bring energy to the roda. All participants will get the opportunity to play if they wish.
